Smooth upper register, incredible bass response, excellent value, November 10, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Polk Audio DB691 6-by-9-Inch 3-Way Speakers (Pair, Silver) (Electronics) I own multiple sets of polk db and infinity reference series speakers. These are tightly competing product lines both offering incredible performance and value. This is my first set of 6x9 by either brand, so I can't compare them directly, but here are my comments. These were installed into the rear deck of an older bmw and replaced 6" woofers/1" silk tweeters. They are driven by an old school 65x4 RMS clarion pro audio amp (back when clarion was better quality). I intended the polks to provide good bass to complement a set of 5.25 infinity reference components in the front. They surpassed my expectations.
Pros:
- Fantastic bass response. No question. I have the amplifier network boosting the rear channel by ~6db at 40hz, and many have asked if I have a subwoofer because the low-end extension is clean and can be felt through every seat in the car. They come with foam gaskets that are really nice makes alot better seal, adapter rings to fit to a variation of vehicles, mounting hardware, and a really nice set of grilles. Buy them dont look at anything else just buy these lol. You wont get better for the price Ive heard some really really high end 150$ a pair type speakers that were slightly better but not by far.

They produce wonderful sound and bass, even without an amplifier. I only have one complaint. I did a lot of research and cross referenced multiple websites before buying these. All sites said these would fit my car (2007 Chevy Cobalt). The speaker did fit in the housing, but the mount where you screw the speaker into the housing was too thick. It only allowed me to use two of the four screws. I had to do more research and find a way to secure these without those other two screws as I do not have the tools to widen the screw holes.
